A dairy-free hot breakfast?

Absolutely.  And thank goodness!

Whenever I hear “hot breakfast”, the traditional thought that comes to mind is something loaded in butter, soaked in milk, and griddled to something of a heavy, loaded richness.  While this does not sound terrible, it might not add that briskness to the steps you take later that day.

But who wouldn’t still want rich flavor?

Contrary to Grandm’a advice, you do not always need butter on a skillet.  Here are a few tricks to lighten your breakfast load, while maintaining those warm, comforting tastes:

1. Use high heat oil instead of butter on your skillet.

2. Use hemp or flax seed milk instead of cow’s milk in your batters.

3. To top your GF toast, use olive oil, a pinch of sea salt, and either honey or fruit preserves.
